Storing Major Appliances

storage unit TexasMajor appliances do not seem like a typical item to place in a storage location. Maybe you moved into a new home that already came with a refrigerator or stove and you’re looking to rid yourself of one of them. But with the hustle and bustle of the move, you might not have time to worry about that right now. Or your child will be moving into his own place soon and you just upgraded your appliances. You feel generous enough to give him your old one.

Whatever the reason, placing appliances in storage rental needs special care. Look first to your owner’s manual for any special instructions. Refrigerators will need to be unplugged at least 24 hours prior to the move. Dispose of everything and wash it thoroughly. Let the freezer unit completely defrost as well. Allow everything to dry to prevent mildew and odors. Stoves also need a thorough clean. If the stove is gas, disconnect the gas line first! If you are unsure about how to do this, call the gas company for assistance.

Tape all doors closed on each appliances, as well as the electrical cords so they do not become damaged. You might want to cover them in large plastic bags to protect them from excessive dirt and dust.
